To appropriately control an inter-vehicular distance in accordance with a road situation.SOLUTION: A vehicular speed control apparatus includes: an inter-vehicular distance detection part for detecting an inter-vehicular distance L between a vehicle itself VC2 and a preceding vehicle VC1 traveling ahead thereof; a vehicular speed control part for controlling a vehicular speed of the vehicle itself so that the inter-vehicular distance detected by the inter-vehicular distance detection part approaches a predetermined target inter-vehicular distance; and a road characteristic detection part for detecting a road characteristic of a road ahead of the vehicle itself. The vehicular speed control part changes the target inter-vehicular distance on the basis of the road characteristic detected by the road characteristic detection part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
