To produce an inexpensive shock-absorbing member from a material of a steel plate with high productivity.SOLUTION: A method includes: a closed cross section-forming half part formation step S1 in which each closed cross section-forming half part is formed by press-molding a steel plate blank into a hat-shaped cross section having a hat section and a pair of brim sections; and a closed cross section-forming body formation step S2 in which at least two closed cross section-forming half parts are combined in a posture in which convex directions of the respective hat sections are opposite to each other, and a top of the hat section of one closed cross section-forming half part and the brim sections of the other closed cross section-forming half part are stacked and joined to form a closed cross section-forming body.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
