To provide a small-sized and light-weight wheel bearing device that ensures bearing performance while suppressing increase in size of the whole bearing device, and is suited to increase in size of a vehicle body and increase in driving torque, and a method for manufacturing a wheel bearing device.SOLUTION: A wheel bearing device comprises: an outer ring 2, which is an outward member having double-row outside raceway surfaces 2c, 2d on its inner periphery; a hub ring 3 provided with a double-row inside raceway surface 3a on its outer periphery facing the double-row outside raceway surfaces 2c, 2d; an inward member having an outside joint member 17 provided with the inside raceway surface 3a; and balls 5A, 5B, which are double-row rolling elements accommodated in a freely rollable manner between the raceway surfaces of the inward member and the outward member, where a ratio of P.C.D of the inside raceway surface 3a, which is the smaller diameter of the inner raceway surfaces 3a, 17a, to an axial pitch B of the double-row balls is 3:1 or more and 4.2:1 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】軸受装置全体の大型化を抑制しつつ、軸受性能を確保し、車体の大型化および駆動トルクの増大に適合した小型軽量の車輪用軸受装置および車輪用軸受装置の製造方法の提供を目的とする。【解決手段】内周に複列の外側軌道面2c・2dを有する外方部材である外輪2と、外周に複列の外側軌道面2c・2dと対向する複列の内側軌道面3aが設けられたハブ輪3と、内側軌道面3aが設けられた外側継手部材17とを備える内方部材と、内方部材と外方部材のそれぞれの軌道面間に転動自在に収容された複列の転動体であるボール5A・5Bと、を備えた車輪用軸受装置において、内側軌道面3a・17aのうち、いずれかの小径である内側軌道面3aのP.C.Dと、複列のボールの軸方向ピッチBとの比が、3:1以上4.2:1以下である。【選択図】図1
