Disclosed are a method and a system for determining whether or not a driver is positioned on the inside or the outside of a vehicle in a vehicle opening and closing system using acoustic communication. The method comprises: a first step of periodically receiving a first acoustic signal and a second acoustic signal; a second step of comparing the first acoustic signal received at a first period with the first acoustic signal received at a second period; and a third step of determining whether or not a mobile device is positioned inside a vehicle. The method can more precisely calculate a position of a driver.
