The present invention relates to a distance measurement system and method for autonomous vehicles, which can solve the blind spot problem as much as possible and can increase the accuracy and reliability of object detection and distance calculation when cameras are used to detect surrounding objects and calculate distances between vehicles. The distance measurement system for autonomous vehicles of the present invention comprises: a plurality of camera units comprising a set of a camera group and at least one mono camera at one or more positions along the periphery of a vehicle, wherein the camera group comprises a main camera and a sub camera in pairs; and a processor for selectively combining the two main cameras according to the distance range to be measured from the vehicle and operating the combination as a stereo camera, obtaining distance information to objects around the vehicle based on the stereo camera, and obtaining distance information to objects corresponding to the blind spot of the stereo camera based on the mono camera.
