A method of controlling a motor includes obtaining a component BEMFα on an α-axis and a component BEMFβ on a β-axis of counter electromotive force of the motor, performing time differentiation on each of the component BEMFα and the component BEMFβ, squaring a differentiated value of the component BEMFα to obtain a first multiplication value and squaring a differentiated value of the component BEMFβ to obtain a second multiplication value, calculating a square root of a sum of the first multiplication value and the second multiplication value, obtaining an absolute value of the counter electromotive force based on the component BEMFα and the component BEMFβ, obtaining at least one of a rotational speed and a number of revolutions of a rotor based on the absolute value of the counter electromotive force and a value of the square root, and controlling the motor based on at least one of the rotational speed and the number of revolutions of the rotor.
