With the rapid growth of cities and urban modes of transport, motorcycles and scooters have evolved to become the key medium of commute in many developing nations. Inherently motorcycles are more susceptible to accidents due to their poor stability and high centre of gravity. In the event of a motorcycle accident, the response time of the emergency services is highly critical and requires a fail-proof system to ensure the alert reaches at once. This paper proposes a collision alert system termed MCAS(Motorcycle collision alert system) that can be equipped on motorcycles and scooters. The MCAS system gets triggered upon a crash and ensures that an alert containing the vehicle’s location, identifying details about the rider and the motorcycle is passed to the nearest hospital, police station and guardian of the victim. This is achieved by means of a GPS, GSM and Arduino module mounted on a shock proof casing which is secured on the chassis of the motorcycle. Force sensors are fixed across several impact points on the crash guard of the motorcycle and are connected to the arduino board. The system is powered by a mobile app which can be configured for the motorcyclist as well as their guardian. The entire system is supported by a cloud server to ensure minimum latency and guarantees a fail-proof system.
