The best locations and sizes for Distributed Generation (DG) sources have an impact on the distribution network’s power losses, voltage profile & voltage stability. The most critical factor in achieving minimal loss is DG location, and non-optimal DG unit distribution can result in low or overvoltage of the network. The goal is to select bus places where the loss is minimal and the potential is inside acceptable limits. When dealing with the increase in DG penetration, procedure is now highly beneficial to the network planning engineer because it can analyse the impact on specific system characteristics of DG allocation. In this paper 2 metaheuristic algorithms namely Ant Colony Optimization Technique (ACOT) and Artificial Fish Swarm Optimization Technique (AFSOT) are proposed to optimize the DG allocation and power quality enhancement. In direction to attain better performance, a DSTATCOM is introduced in the system for reactive power compensation, which in-turn helps in loss minimization and voltage quality improvement. On a standard 14-bus and a 33-bus radial distribution system, the proposed approach is tested. Simulation is carried out using Matlab coding and the results produced using the suggested method are compared and validated.
