From last few years there has been seen tremendous changes in the usage of UAV in various areas including defence, packet delivery, search and rescue operation etc. Autonomy in UAV means the ability to fly safely from source to destination without little or no human intervention. For making the UAV fully automated navigation plays important role. Navigation of autonomous UAV is one of the basics yet unresolved problem in the field of autonomy and control system. In this article, classification of AUAVs (Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) is presented using a novel taxonomy. Different communication protocols deployed at various layers during communication of AUAV are explained briefly. Later, a variety of applications are described by using the novel taxonomy. This article will help the new researchers to understand the fundamentals related to AUAV.
