This paper describes the full automated advanced demand signals II (FA-ADS-II) scheme and its performance evaluations. Firstly, the FA-ADS-II scheme is proposed. This is scheme that the ADS-II scheme is extended to automatically decide appropriate system parameters' values according to traffic conditions based on estimated costs without any database; The ADS-II scheme is a traffic signal control scheme that directly controls phases based on instantaneous and individual users' locations. Secondly, in static traffic conditions, the performance of the FA-ADS-II scheme, that of the conventional ADS-II scheme with optimum system parameters such as cooperation coefficients and the orders of the demand function, and that of a coordinated control scheme with optimum control parameters such as cycles, splits, and offsets are compared. The results show that the performance of the FA-ADS-II scheme is approximately equal to that of the conventional ADS-II scheme, and that the FA-ADS-II scheme is superior to the coordinated control scheme. Finally, these schemes are compared in a dynamic traffic condition, and the results show that the average idling ratio per person of the FA-ADS-II scheme is smaller than that of the coordinated control scheme by about 60% at most, and that the performance of the FA-ADS-II scheme is approximately equal to that of the conventional ADS-II scheme. It is shown that the FA-ADS-II scheme is sufficiently practical in comparisons with the conventional ADS-II scheme.
