This paper presents a 3-D analytical modeling and experimental analysis of magnetic field distribution and mutual inductance calculation, with and without shielding in a wireless power transfer system. The modeling involves Fourier analysis, magnetic vector, and scalar potential definitions. Magnetic flux density distribution in the air and mutual inductances for various misalignments with shielding and without shielding is computed with the proposed 3-D analytical model. The results of the mutual inductance and magnetic field distribution obtained from analytical and finite element simulation modeling are compared with the experiment, and good agreement is found.
