The dissemination of diverse electric powertrain concepts on the automotive market as a solution towards environment-friendly mobility presupposes a close examination of electric traction motors and their production systems [1]. Different actors across the automotive value chain and even so far non-automotive suppliers have already started working on the design of future electric motor manufacturing systems for automotive applications. This paper presents a methodology for assessing the capability, in terms of cost effectiveness, of different production configurations for a given array of electric motors. A case study based on the process “End-of-Line (EoL) Test” illustrates and discusses the applicability of the methodology.
