Mobile security is a major concern in today's world. Biometric security techniques are modern ways to ensure security in these systems. Iris is a unique biometric trait that offers greater advantage over other traits. The user's iris image is captured using the mobile camera and is matched with the pre stored templates in the phone for the purpose of authentication. But such images are prone to noise due to the effects of eyelashes, poor light etc. and must be treated before subsequent steps of iris recognition are applied. In the proposed system, the acquired image is first treated with an adaptive fuzzy filter to remove the noise component, followed by Pre-processing (Localization and Segmentation), Normalization, Enhancement, Feature extraction and Matching. Application of S-shaped adaptive fuzzy filter has made it possible to carry out segmentation on noisy images and the success of the proposed method can be inferred from its extremely high recognition rate.
