This paper proposes a fast-computational method to calculate inductances on a salient pole machine. By analyzing the air gap properties, such us maximum and minimum air gap values, saturation and slotting effects are included in the calculations. A sample function is computed numerically to create a periodic function that is appropriately scaled to form the air gap function; thus the inductances are obtained. The scaling factors consider maximum and minimum air gaps that are calculated by solving a simplified magnetic equivalent circuit. The slotting effect is included by using a conformal mapping solution. In this paper, a proof of concept design is analyzed showing that inductances in the q-and d-axis can be obtained accounting for saturation and the slotting effect without using finite element analysis.
