The primary purpose of this paper is to develop passive attitude control stabilization (PACS) for three-axis stability of a small satellite in near Earth equatorial orbit. The control scheme is unique in that it uses only pure passive ways for 3-axis attitude control. Main advantage is that no power or fuel is required to achieve attitude control. This control is achieved by a combination of permanent magnetic rod, hysteresis rods and a gravity gradient boom. The pitch loop of the satellite is controlled by the gravity gradient boom, while the roll/yaw loops are stabilized through the permanent magnetic rod which is installed along y axis and two hysteresis rods which installed along x and z axes. The use of gravity gradient provides a simple way to stabilize a spacecraft in Nadir pointing. The permanent magnet will align one body of the spacecraft with the local Earth magnetic field direction and the angular velocities are dissipated using hysteresis rods. Simulation results demonstrate that three-axis stability can be obtained using the proposed passive control scheme. Simulations how to apply the technique for gravity-gradient and passive magnetic control development and design for miniature satellites accompanied by results of their attitude dynamics investigation are presented.
