Pulse distortion, caused by propagation into EDFAs, must be taken into account for the analysis and the design of ultrahigh bit rate optical transmission systems. We analyze the relationship between the nonlinear doped fiber coefficient and the population inversion. We show that as the pulse becomes shorter and powerful, the shape distortion increases. An amplitude percent error higher than 15% has been evaluated for a 4 ps and -20 dBm input pulse.
