This paper describes the current up-to-date model of the interaction between two ships in an overtaking situation, build the mathematical model for ship's motion based on the MMG model and simulate the ship's maneuvering motion when they are overtaking in the restricted waters by a semi-theoretical semi-empirical model. One hand, to verify the correctness of the model; on the other hand, to provide some useful references for ship-handling in heavy traffic waters. This paper provides a way to study the interaction between two ships in an overtaking situation.
