The lane detection function is an important aspect when constructing in-driving support systems. This function estimates the shape of the lane in which the vehicle is driving and the position of the vehicle within the lane. In this paper, we have proposed a lane detection algorithm that can not only operate on highways, but also on local roads by using information obtained from road-side structures. We have evaluated the performance of our algorithm under various conditions, such as day-light and night, sunny and rainy. The performance of the lane-detection system has been improved when compared with a conventional method that detects lane markers on both sides.
