In this paper, we propose a joint detection and decoding method for a helicopter satellite communication system with low-density parity-check codes, in response to the problem that the signals are periodically occluded by the helicopter rotor blades. First, we introduce a finite-state Markov model to describe the occlusion channel. Second, we design a joint detection and decoding method based on this model. Specifically, a posteriori probability of each symbol based on the occlusion detection is calculated, which is exploited to complete the decoding procedure. In the end, we test the performance of the proposed method under the simulated rotor occlusion channel, and the simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve excellent bit error rate performance in the rotor occlusion channel.
