In this paper, a new flux switching permanent magnet machine(S-FSPM) with an outer-rotor configuration is proposed, which termed as sandwiched flux switching permanent magnet machine(S-FSPM). The prominent characteristics of the new S-FSPM machine is that the two pieces of PMs mounted in the same stator pole with an optimized angle is able to improve magnet usage efficiency and maximum output torque. Firstly, the operation principle of the new 6/22-pole S-FSPM machine has been proposed. To evaluate the performance of the new S-FSPM machine, a conventional 12/22-pole machine has been proposed in terms of flux-linkage, back EMF, output torque, and motor Efficiency. By theoretical analysis and two-dimensional (2-D) finite element analysis (FEA), verified that the motor efficiency, the magnet usage efficiency and the output torque have been improved significantly.
