This paper presents an analysis of the feasibility of achieving a stable axial magnetic suspension system for a single-drive bearingless motor active positioning on one axis. The proposed bearingless motor has an unsymmetrical structure and high torque density, resulting in highly unstable axial stiffness, making it challenging to achieve a stable axial magnetic suspension of the rotor. The key parameter of the motor is obtained using the FEA analysis platform to analyze the axial magnetic suspension. The study then analyzes the stable magnetic suspension using the MATLAB platform. The study found that the proposed motor can achieve a stable magnetic suspension using a proportional integral derivative (PID) controller with an appropriate second-order cutoff frequency, despite its unsymmetrical structure and highly unstable axial stiffness.
