The main aim of the paper is to introduce an unconventional control method for multiphase inverter-fed induction motor drives. They have great prospects for the use in the field of traction drives, which are explained by more extensive control potentials and advantages of such drives in comparison with the similar three-phase systems. In particular, the increase of the phase number of the induction motor, combined with the use of such a method of the motor control as over-phase method, allows developing and creating electrical drive systems, which have new properties and improved technical and economic characteristics. This means, for example, less motor mass and overall dimensions, greater reliability, possibility to increase the motor movable secondary element motion speed over its synchronous value.
