Vessel's trajectory information extracted from AIS (Automatic Identification System) data plays an important role in the field of vessel collision avoidance, navigation, water traffic state analysis, etc. The missing information in vessel's trajectory having a marked impact on research work and decision making is ought to be restored as soon as possible consequently. In view of this situation, an interpolation algorithm based on polynomial interpolation with full consideration of vessel's dynamic information such as velocity, course, and acceleration is proposed. Firstly, the polynomial equations between longitude and time, latitude and time are established in this algorithm. Secondly, the longitude and latitude information of the vessel at any time is interpolated to restore the missing vessel information. Finally, the restored longitude and latitude information calculated from the last step are combined in order to get the restored trajectory. The experimental analysis of the real vessel information on MATLAB is carried out, and the results are displayed on the shipping big data visualization system of Yangtze River. The experiment and demonstration both prove that the trajectory can be restored by the algorithm proposed in this paper, and our work can provide accurate data support for the relevant research of the shipping department.
