Thank you Roger. It is an honor to be here before you today. This is my first time speaking to the IEEE. In the past, I have been very fortunate to present to the AIAA and the American Helicopter Society, and what really impresses me about these engineering-directed organizations is that in addition to a keen interest in the sciences, there is an equally strong interest in the historical legacy of aerospace technologies. What I hope to do today is to use that enthusiasm to lay out lessons, both successful enterprises as well as cautionary tales to guide the discussions that will be taking place relative to the next century of avionics.
