We have developed a 4 dimensional model (3 spatial and 1 temporal dimension) of diode pumped neodymium lasers which predicts the following parameters: optical energy output and efficiency-for evaluation of pump geometry; optical power for free running and Q-switched modes-for non-linear optical conversion; gain and refractive index vs. position and time-for resonator optimization, gain length, loss, and output coupling; positive thermal lens, astigmatism and higher order corrections, thermo-optic and stress optic index of refraction, laser transverse mode structure in the cavity-effects resonator stability and extraction efficiency; laser beam properties-divergence and beam profile; temperature and stress vs. position; effects of cooling configurations-fluid flow and conduction.<>
