A universal grey box model is proposed to model permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) with interior magnets for a wide frequency range. The proposed model supports the analysis of the parasitic effects in electrical drive between power electronics inverters, power cables, and electrical machines. Based on measured impedance spectra, equivalent electrical circuits are derived regarding the number of resonance points. A unique characteristic of the proposed grey box model lies in its flexibility, as it can be easily applied to model other electrical machines. Compared to the state-of-the-art, the proposed model considers a frequency-dependent mutual inductance between phases. The model parameters are fit using a differential evolution algorithm. Here, similarity between phases in high-frequency domain and the difference between phases in low-frequency domain are utilized for the parameterization process. The validation of the proposed grey box model is carried out in both the frequency and time domains. The proposed grey box model has a high degree of fidelity and can be used to estimate the maximum voltage stress in the insulation system of the analyzed PMSM.
