This work introduces an isolated converter dual-active-bridge (DAB) DC-DC converter-specific dead band proportional-integral (PI) current controller for the bidirectional operation. The controller provided in this work utilizes pulse width as an additional control variable, boosting the single-phase shift (SPS) modulation technique, in contrast to standard single-phase shift (SPS) modulation systems that mainly rely on a 90-degree phase shift ratio. With this new method, bidirectional power transmission may be conducted with accurate tracking of the current reference during a single switching cycle and seamless switching between the two directions. The controller efficiently achieves Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) and Zero Current Switching (ZCS) by using a PI controller and hysteresis band to manage PWM pulses, eliminating switching losses and increasing overall converter efficiency. The results of experiments obtained during the converter's transient processes prove the higher dynamic performance of the proposed dead band current controller, which shows its simplicity and ease of implementation. Additionally, grid-to-vehicle (G2V) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) power flow control's effectiveness and successful validation through 1 kW prototype experiments.
