The paper deals with the modeling of the vehicle suspension, which consists of dampers, springs, and tires. The paper focuses on the dynamic analysis of vertical vibration of the suspension, which is described by a mathematical quarter car model. The suspension model is excited by stochastic road profiles. Spectral responses are obtained from the quarter car suspension model through the solution of differential equations. The objective of this paper is to evaluate conventional passive suspension in terms of ride comfort, which affects the passengers in the vehicle, and also in terms of road holding, which impacts safety. The article presents the relationship between comfort and road holding of the vehicle. This relationship assesses suspension from both perspectives and shows that increasing comfort and road holding simultaneously are conflicting objectives.
