Flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machine is a type of stator permanent magnet machine with high torque density. In this paper, an overlapping winding (OW) design is employed on a dual-stator 6/4 FSPM machine. The overlapping design has a larger coil span and therefore, brings almost double flux-linkage and back EMF, which leads to higher torque density comparing to non-overlapping design. Advantages of overlapping design are discussed in the paper. Analytical derivation with slot vector is used to study the winding connection. Direct performance comparison with finite element analysis is made between the overlapping and non-overlapping structure. The results show that OW has higher efficiency and lower armature current density.
