In this paper, the maximum regenerative power braking(MRPB) method for the Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor drive is proposed. In the low-speed high-inertia motor drive system, the conventional constant-torque regenerative braking could not be ideal since the regenerative power might not be proportional to torque or stator currents. In this paper, to improve the amount of the regenerative power of the Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor drive, the model-based analysis is performed to calculate the best combination of DQ-axis current references. Also, the simple method to implement this braking method is proposed and verified by simulations and experiments.
