The “dual sensor,” which combines an electromagnetic induction sensor and ground-penetrating radar (GPR), is highly valuable for detecting buried landmines due to its sensitivity to both metallic and nonmetallic objects. However, it faces several technical challenges. In minefields, inhomogeneous soil often causes significant radar clutter, which complicates the performance of GPR. This study demonstrates the use of GPR for landmine detection and its applications in mine-affected countries. Our findings indicate that the issue of radar clutter can be mitigated through 3D image reconstruction via synthetic aperture radar processing. Furthermore, this article the future potential of GPR application, including its use in conflict zones, such as Ukraine.
