This correspondence focuses on the use of phase-coded (PC) waveforms for radar. The authors present tradeoffs between the use of matched versus mismatched filters, loss in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), time sidelobe levels, and Doppler intolerance for random and cyclic codes. A multiple hypothesis approach is introduced for countering intrapulse Doppler intolerance
