As the demand for sustainable and energy-efficient electrified transportation solutions grows, choosing the right electric drive becomes crucially important. The main objective of this paper is to compare the performance of seven different electric drives for propulsion in terms of torque density, torque pulsation, torque-speed range, efficiency, active weight, electromechanical efficiency, and active cost of material. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) has been used to obtain these metrics under continuous and peak torque conditions. This study considers Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (IPMSM), Induction Machine (IM), PM-assist Synchronous Reluctance Machine (PM-SyncRel), Synchronous Reluctance Machine (SyncRel), Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM), Double Stator Switched Reluctance Machine (DSSRM), and Double Stator PM Synchronous Machine (DS-PMSM). A detailed thermal analysis has been done in Ansys Fluent to check the temperature of the stator winding and magnet using two alternate cooling methods for continuous and peak current density in all seven machines.
