Traffic Management at signals has been a major problem in India. Unscientific methods, negligence and overpopulation has led to mismanagement of traffic at traffic signals. It needs introduction of new technology and a better approach to improve the traffic condition. A possible solution to this problem is the density based automatic traffic control system. The proposed model checks for the density of traffic at the traffic signal and changes the traffic lights accordingly. A video camera and traffic lights are interfaced with Raspberry Pi board. The video is processed real time and the Raspberry Pi enables the traffic lights to change when required. This could make the movement of traffic easier and time saving. This is an improvement from the conventional timer based operation of traffic lights.
