EU SENECA project considers two basic design configurations for new European supersonic airliner: the quad- engine and triple-engine – airframe integrated platforms, including their exploration and optimization for aircraft noise performances. Semi-empirical and ray acoustic modeling suggest that the noise installation effect will be influenced by sound reflection from the wing surface for fan inlet noise at certification points beneath the flight path, and by the twin- engine effect on jet noise at the sideline certification point. For triple-engine designs, the twin-engine effect may reduce jet noise by up to 3 EPNdB, while for quad-engine designs, this reduction could reach 5 EPNdB. Additionally, the wing's shielding effect could further reduce fan noise, potentially increasing overall noise reduction, but only if the engine nacelle is installed above the wing surface.
