In this paper, we present novel light versus current results for two transversely coupled VCSELs. One or both of the coupled VCSELs are designed to be anti-guided, which yields stronger inter-element coupling over longer distances than is possible with traditional evanescent-wave coupling. We observe that the two VCSELs robustly phase lock, similar to the results that we recently reported for two VCSELs separated by up to 20 /spl mu/m.
