In this evolving era, there is a need for intelligent traffic surveillance, which also includes the provision of detection of speed limits violations. The new aspects of the paper involved the detection of the speed of the moving vehicles which can be done with the help of this efficient and the novel approach. This model employs the actual real time car identification and also the evaluation of speed with the help of surveillance video. Using yolov8 to define, the identification of the cars in a sequence is done based on the relative position of the object in the subsequent frame. Here the speed is determined by taking the actual path used by the vehicle from one boundary to another within a given time, with this we can estimate the speed. Finally, to assert the validity of the model, various types of traffic condition consisting of weather, traffic, etc. are rigorously tried. This model is quite helpful for the authorities to control the speed and the frequency of an accident and over speeding.
