This work presents a study on the application of Perturb & Observe Algorithm to determine the optimum braking force to be applied at the wheels of a vehicle so as to prevent the loss of traction. The objective of the study is to model the tire-road interaction of a vehicle using one-wheel model. The optimum braking force is obtained by subjecting the model to small perturbations in braking force. The slip and coefficient of friction is monitored to determine the tendency of the vehicle to enter into a skid due to a wheel-lock through simulation. The dynamic behavior of the tire-road system is also investigated under variable road conditions at the wheels through simulation. The peak braking torque is then obtained from the simulation results. The competency of an open-loop system to control a complex ABS application is demonstrated.
