Nowadays, Plug in Electric Vehicle (PEV) has been considered as an environmental friendly and high efficient than the fuel vehicle. The electric vehicle (EV) has two main electrical systems; the on-board battery charger (BC) and the motor driver. Basically, there are two types of charger depends on the power flow; unidirectional and bidirectional BC. The EV which has a bidirectional BC is considered as a decentralized generator, wherein it could supply the grid while the vehicle is connected. Thus, bidirectional BC is very beneficial feature for both the EV driver and the grid operators. In this paper an updated review is presented about the single-phase bidirectional BC. The review is compromised on four main parameters; the BC lifetime which based mainly on the capacitor type, efficiency, cost and the power factor (PF). In addition, the topologies are summarized regarding various performance criteria.
