In this paper, a comparison between an analytic railway simulation and a simplified railway simulation based on a cellular automaton is shown. Using the obtained results, the track capacity behaviour with randomized dwell times is evaluated in the example of a suburban line. Subsequently, the stochastic influence on the average running time and the resulting delay is shown.
