This paper presents a reconfigurable design of a multiport bidirectional converter which incorporates a DAB and CLLC converter architecture to provide a wide output voltage range for charging electric vehicle batteries. In general, DAB provides a wide range of control alternatives but have low efficiency, whereas CLLCs have a narrow output voltage range and poor transient response despite their high efficiency. This converter, which runs in series and parallel, can easily accept 800 Volt and 400 Volt EV battery voltage levels. To produce two different voltage levels at the converter's output from a single input while running in series or parallel, two additional switches must be included one for each of the voltage levels required. The proposed design allows for high-frequency operation at 500 kHz while minimising magnetic size and ensuring ZVS in all main and secondary side switches. To evaluate a 2 KW system, an exhaustive simulation was run in MATLAB/Simulink at a switching frequency of 500 KHz. The results indicated much higher power density as well as a wide range of feasible output voltages.
