Addresses the conceptual design of a propulsion module to serve as part of a two-stage propulsion system for a two person lunar transfer vehicle. For this module, designated Propulsion Module 1 (PM1), the avionics are sized, including INS/GPS, star trackers, sun sensors, horizon sensors, and flight computers. Batteries and a solar power system are also sized, including the sun tracking system and mechanisms. Thermal control issues are considered. The communications system is sized to provide the bulk of Earth-Moon communications while the LTV is in lunar orbit. The PM1 propulsion system itself is also sized, including a hypergolic engine and tanks. An attitude control system is sized, using the same propellants as the main engine. Performance calculations are performed to determine a valid trajectory.
