In conventional switched reluctance motors (SRMs), the torque current and exciting current are supplied by the same phase winding, which leads to inconvenient air-gap field regulation, poor power factor and torque density. In this paper, a novel double-rotor switched reluctance motor (DR-SRM) is proposed, which consists of a double-side stator with two sets of windings on the corresponding stator teeth and an auxiliary excitation winding on the sharing stator yoke, as well as one internal rotor and one external rotor. With the help of auxiliary excitation windings, the proposed DR-SRM could optimize the power allocations of the internal and external rotors by means of flux-weakening and flux-strengthening control of two sets of windings. The characteristics of magnetic flux control on the proposed DR-SRM are demonstrated by finite element analysis.
