Road traffic and divergent vehicle behavior are the main issues to be addressed by todays traffic management system. Rapid growth in vehicle population increases not only opportunities but also challenges in safety transportation. This paper discusses the necessity of a promised context-aware framework and also contributes an architectural view of road traffic and vehicle behavior monitoring system. The proposed system aims to tackle multiple transportation problems such as route planning, vehicle behavior modeling, congestion and travel time predictions. Our literature survey shows that the technique of road inferencing with Global Positioning System(GPS) traces is more prominent for analyzing traffic and travel behavior on city, highway and freeway roads in the effective way. The work also examines existing map matching algorithms for the generation of accurate road maps. Finally, the evaluation of extracting traffic behavior and driving scenarios is also discussed.
