The present study includes the detailed study of lithium-ion battery used in electric vehicles by introducing a novel passive cooling technique with paraffin wax as a phase change material. The objective is to increase the battery life using PCM and maintain the optimum temperature (35°C) of the battery cell during the charging and discharging. The geological investigation is also conducted for different parameters of Lithium-ion Battery. The CFD analysis is carried out with and without PCM cooling and the temperature of the cell is compared. It is observed that the temperature of the cell is drastically reduced by half with the use of PCM and the working cycle of the battery is increased to reach its threshold temperature. The use of PCM increases the shell life and the driving range of the batteries used in electric vehicles thereby increasing the life of the battery.
