Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast System (ADS-B) is a technology that provides aircraft information for air traffic control systems. ADS-B provides several benefits to the airline industry such as higher accuracy of surveillance information, improved situational awareness of air traffic controllers and pilots and lower implementation costs when compared to traditional radars. Despite these advantages, ADS-B broadcasts unencrypted aircraft data over the air making it easy to decode, replicate or interfere with airline information. This article aims to expose three ADS-B vulnerabilities: spoofing, message repetition and message manipulation. A low-cost platform is proposed and demonstrated in order to enable security verifications related to ADS-B.
