Summary form only given. Recent advances in the fabrication of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) allow the production of complex FBG structures with precisely controlled amplitude and phase reflectivity characteristics. This capability opens up the possibility of using FBG for coherent control in short pulse applications such as communication and pump-probe spectroscopy. In this paper we demonstrate the use of a superstructure FBG for pulse repetition rate multiplication, obtaining a 40 GHz pulse train from a 10 GHz input.
