With the rapid construction of power systems and electric power lines in China, the traditional manual inspection method has become inefficient and is unable to meet the inspection requirements of power transmission, transformation, and distribution network businesses in the power system. As a result, researchers have conducted extensive research on UAV intelligent inspection technology and applied it in the power system, which provides greater convenience for electric power enterprises to inspect mountainous areas and other complex terrain areas. However, the UAV intelligent inspection technology involves many professional fields, and there are still some challenges in correctly and efficiently applying professional technologies in these fields to the transmission, transformation, and distribution network inspection business of the power system. This paper first summarizes the application status of UAV intelligent inspection technology in various businesses of the power system and analyzes its working modes and technical characteristics. Then, it studies and analyzes the restricted factors of UAV intelligent inspection applications in the power system. Finally, based on the key technology in the application of UAV intelligent inspection, the future development direction of UAV intelligent inspection technology in the power system is projected, which provides a reference for the further application of UAV intelligent inspection technology in the operation and maintenance of the power system.
