The paper is a powerpoint presentation on railways safety, based on a safety publication entitled "How safe is safe enough?", as presented by the head of the research and development of the Rail Safety & Standards Board. The goals of the publication include: establishment of a common understanding amongst internal and external stakeholders as to what the railway is expected to deliver with regard to safety, and agreement as to how this should be achieved; development and application of a framework of processes and criteria for safety decisions that decision makers in the industry can confidently and completely apply, and in which external stakeholders have confidence and trust; and to achieve clarity and stability in the safety governance of the railway and in how the industry responds to the regulatory and financial environment. These goals are explained in detail. (13 pages)
