The author first reviews the possibilities and limitations of power increase and treats engine foundation problems. He then deals with the relationship between hull and engine vibration, its sources and methods of elimination, and the effect of hull deflection on the propulsion machinery. Finally, he discusses problems of propeller blade pitch and their implications from the viewpoint of power requirements and manoeuvrability, with special consideration of the masses in motion that have to be stopped.
